Who We Are

The United Church of Moscow is a progressive faith community, which means we seek to know God in ways which honor the authority of each individual’s conscience and point of view. We love science and find faith to be compatible with it. We respect the integrity of other faith traditions, trusting that the same river of love flows beneath every house of worship. We’re comfortable asking questions, wishing to avoid a too-easy certainty. For us, progressive theology is a middle way between the rigidity of traditional orthodoxy and the emptiness of secularism.

More, because God is the source of all life, we move through the world in life-giving directions; because God is always with us, we walk alongside one another; because Jesus commands us to love ourselves and our neighbors, we do our best to do so. Our website highlights our theological watchwords: Community, justice, compassion, wonder, care for the Earth and each other. The United Church of Moscow is a welcoming and affirming congregation, fully inclusive of LGBTQI persons in membership and leadership.
